Overview

Ionic Liquid Electrolyte Lithium-Ion Battery for Extreme Environments

Ionic liquid battery applys to a wide range of needs and applications that conventional lithium-ion batteries have difficulty serving.

For many years, we have advanced the research and development of next-generation lithium-ion batteries that use ionic liquids (room-temperature molten salts) as electrolytes. These liquids are flame-resistant and stable across a wide temperature range. Building on the high reliability cultivated through space applications, we are developing power solutions that operate in harsh environments.

Features

By combining the properties of ionic liquids with established manufacturing technologies, we pursue the safety, temperature tolerance, and productivity required in harsh environments.

POINT 01

High Safety and Stability

Using non-flammable liquids with extremely low vapor pressure reduces the risk of ignition and leakage. Their wide electrochemical potential window also provides excellent stability against oxidation and reduction.

POINT 02

Wide Operating Temperature Range

By leveraging the ability of ionic liquids to remain liquid from low to high temperatures, we are expanding support for harsh environments with significant temperature fluctuations.

POINT 03

Excellent Manufacturability

Because existing lithium-ion battery production lines can be used, the technology can integrate with established manufacturing expertise and equipment.

Development Results

Beginning with development for space applications, we have expanded the operating temperature range and conducted charge-discharge evaluations in high temperature environments.
